This is the only instrumental that Cheryl has ever recorded. In fact, I don't know of any other instrumental that she has written.

When I asked Cheryl for the story behind this song, she replied:

I was doing a gig at the Octagon Arts Center in Clearwater, FL and the other act on the bill was an excellent guitar player. He taught me his beautiful instrumental version of "Bring A Torch Jeanette Isabella" and I loved it and played it all the time after that. There was a particular chord in it that I just loved, an F6maj7 I think, and it was incredibly inspiring to me. All three cat songs came from that chord as well as that little instrumental. I played it for Ben in the studio, he recorded it, we decided to use it, I had to have a title and Clearwater is just what came to me.

(Let me remind everyone that I don't know anything about music, so I don't know what that chord is, so don't bother asking me. That was a joke :^)
